How to Prep Your Pool Deck for a Phoenix Summer
1. Pressure wash before you inspect
You can't judge a deck under a layer of monsoon dust. A basic pressure wash exposes cracks, spalling and coating failure that hides under grime.
2. Map every crack
Hairline cracks are cosmetic; anything wider than a credit card is structural and will telegraph through any new coating. Mark them with chalk before you get quotes.
3. Check for hot spots
Walk the deck barefoot at 2 p.m. If bare concrete or old paint is unwalkable, that's your cue to look at a cool-surface resurfacing system before June.
4. Re-seal if your coating is under 5 years old
A fresh seal coat every 2–3 years dramatically extends the life of an acrylic finish and restores the water-bead effect that keeps stains off.
5. Book resurfacing before May
Once daytime highs pass 105°F, cure times shorten and reputable installers book out 4–6 weeks. April and early May are the sweet spot in Arizona.
